IPSWICH HOMEOWNER GUIDE
Roof Cleaning and Asbestos Safety in Queensland
Important Queensland guidance for older corrugated cement roofs and prohibited cleaning methods.
Begin with an inspection
A roof cannot be properly scoped from colour loss alone. Tiles, ridge caps, valleys, flashings, previous repairs, leaks, pitch and access should be considered before deciding whether repair, restoration or replacement is appropriate.
Compare written scopes
Check which repairs, preparation stages and coating products are included. Clarify tile allowances, ridge work, cleanup, runoff controls, warranties, exclusions and how unexpected defects will be handled.
Use qualified contractors
Queensland building and roofing work can have licensing requirements. Check the contractor and licence class against the work being quoted. Suspected asbestos must be handled under specific Queensland safety rules.
This guide draws on QBCC, Queensland asbestos guidance and Ipswich City Council information.
